ChatGPT ads calculator for online stores

ChatGPT ads start at 15 euros a day and OpenAI publishes no benchmarks, so the only way to know is a test. Before you pay for one, check two things: how much one click may cost at your order value and margin, and whether the budget you have in mind brings enough orders to say anything. Enter five numbers and the calculator answers both, in euros.

Interactive calculator

Can ChatGPT ads pay for your store?

Enter your average order, your margin, how many clicks become an order and what a click costs. The calculator tells you the most a click may cost, and how many orders a test would bring before you can trust it.

A click may cost at most €1.44 order × order rate × margin; above it every click loses money
Break-even ROAS 2.50x 1 / margin
ROAS at your click price 0.45x
Profit per €1 of ads -€0.82 ROAS × margin, minus 1
Orders from the test 2 expected, at your numbers
Test result -€369 gross profit from the orders minus the budget
To break even you need 13

OpenAI also counts orders after an ad was seen but not clicked, and reports them separately. This calculator works from clicks only, because only a click leaves a trace in your store. Read the share of clicks that order from your own orders, not from the platform report.

How the calculator works

Why order size decides it

At a 40% margin and 1.5% of clicks ordering, a click is worth 0.18 euros to a shop with 30 euro orders, 0.54 with 90 euro orders, 1.80 with 300 euro orders and 5.40 with 900 euro orders. At the 3 to 22 dollars a click early advertisers report, only the last one covers the click on its own. Furniture, appliances, bikes and other products people research by asking are where ChatGPT ads have the best odds; a 30 euro impulse buy needs a far higher share of clicks ordering than any channel usually gives.

The full guide, with OpenAI's prices, budgets and measurement rules checked against its own documentation, is are ChatGPT ads worth it for an online store. How a paid ChatGPT click is told apart from a free ChatGPT visit is in the ChatGPT ads attribution guide.

Measure the test on your orders

Enalitica reads the oppref click id onto every order, so paid ChatGPT clicks stay apart from free ChatGPT visits, and spend, direct orders and orders shared with other channels sit in one view next to OpenAI's own count. Connect your shop before the campaign starts and you also get the number this calculator needs most: your real share of ad clicks that become an order, per channel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much may a ChatGPT ad click cost my store?

At most your average order × the share of clicks that become an order × your margin. With a 90 euro order, 1.5% of clicks ordering and a 40% margin, one click is worth 0.54 euros of gross profit, so a ChatGPT click priced above that loses money on average. Early advertisers report 3 to 22 dollars a click (Search Engine Journal, September 2026), which is why the result depends so much on order size.

How big should a first ChatGPT ads test be?

Big enough to bring about 10 orders at your expected rates. At OpenAI's 15 euro daily minimum, a month costs about 450 euros; at 3 euros a click and 1.5% of clicks ordering, that brings about 2 orders, which cannot separate a good channel from a lucky week. Either fund a bigger test or treat the small one as a learning test and judge it on CPC, clicks and carts.

Which conversion rate should I enter for ChatGPT ads?

If you have run ChatGPT ads, use the orders that carry the oppref click id divided by the clicks you paid for. If not, start from your Google Ads rate and treat it as optimistic: someone clicking from inside a conversation is often still deciding what to buy. Do not use the rate in Ads Manager, which also counts purchases after someone only saw the ad.

I buy ChatGPT ads per 1,000 views. How do I get a cost per click?

Cost per click = CPM / (10 × click-through rate in %). A 30 euro CPM at a 1% click-through rate is 3 euros a click. Enter that number in the calculator.

Does the calculator store my numbers?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere, stored or shared. Refreshing the page resets the example values.
